Watch Pavement Perform ‘Harness Your Hopes’ On ‘Colbert’
The band is the subject of a new feature film, Pavements.

Pavement played their standout song, “Harness Your Hopes,” on Thursday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The appearance was the influential band’s first public performance of 2025.
Pavement is the subject of a new feature film, Pavements. The innovative movie – part documentary and part scripted musical – features band members Stephen Malkmus, Mark Ibold, Bob Nastanovich, Steve West and Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg.

Directed by Alex Ross Perry, Pavements includes performances by Joe Keery, Jason Schwartzman, Tim Heidecker, Kim Gordon, Soccer Mommy and others. The film is currently screening in select theaters with a nationwide opening on June 6.
Pavement recorded “Harness Your Hopes” for their fourth album, 1997’s Brighten The Corners. The song later made its first appearance on an EP issued in 1999 and was part of the Brighten The Corners expanded edition. “Harness Your Hopes” recently gained popularity on TikTok.
