Paul Simon Goes ‘Slip Slidin’ Away’ On ‘Colbert’

Watch the legendary musician perform a solo rendition of his 1977 hit in honor of Stephen Colbert’s 60th birthday.

Stephen Colbert celebrated his 60th birthday yesterday and recruited Paul Simon to serve as the musical guest on a special episode of The Late Show. Simon delivered a gorgeous solo rendition of his 1977 hit “Slip Slidin’ Away.”

Paul Simon originally released “Slip Slidin’ Away” as one of two new songs on his 1977 compilation Greatest Hits, Etc.. The song peaked at the five slot on the Billboard Pop Singles chart and was performed frequently in concert by Simon over the decades that followed.

Monday’s episode also saw Stephen Colbert reunite with his longtime friend and creative partner Steve Carell. Steve Carell appeared in multiple segments leading up to Paul Simon’s performance.

Paul Simon was back on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert just two months after his last visit to the CBS late-night talk show. While Simon played “Your Forgiveness” from his 2023 album, Seven Psalms, in March, he went with a classic song in honor of Colbert’s birthday.
