Paul Simon Plays First Headlining Show Of Tour In Atlanta

By Scott Bernstein May 4, 2016 7:43 am PDT

Famed performer Paul Simon began his first North American tour since 2011 over the weekend with appearances at thew New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Memphis’s Beale Street Music Festival. Last night, Simon played his first headlining show of the tour and the NYC native treated fans to a career-spanning 23-song performance.

Paul’s band opened with an instrumental rendition of “Proof” before Simon joined the action for “The Boy In The Bubble.” The singer/guitarist and his talented backing group filled the main set with songs from many of his solo albums as well as the Simon & Garfunkel classic “Homeward Bound.” Of the 18 tunes performed in the main set only “The Werewolf” was pulled from Paul’s soon-to-be-released Stranger To Stranger LP.

Simon did pull from the new album to start off his first of three encores with “Wristband,” the only other Stranger To Stranger track played in Atlanta. The pairing of “Late In The Evening” and “Still Crazy After All These Years” concluded the first encore. Paul Simon brought the evening to a close with a pair of Simon & Garfunkel’s most beloved songs as “The Boxer” was the night’s second encore and “America” served as the third encore.
