Paul McCartney Plays Intimate Show In California

Last night Paul McCartney played a last-minute concert at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace in Pioneertown, California. The 300-person capacity venue hosted The Beatles founding member between Desert Trip appearances last weekend and tomorrow in Indio, California.
The honky tonk show began with Sir Paul’s “Save Us” and then proceeded through a string of hits by The Beatles and from his solo output, including “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Day Tripper” and “Back in the U.S.S.R.” as well as “Junior’s Farm,” “Let Me Roll It” and “Band On The Run.”
“This is the biggest gig we ever played,” McCartney reportedly jokingly told the audience, adding, “we thought it would be a good idea to come out to a little roadhouse like this.” The abbreviated set came to an end with “Hey Jude” followed by the three-song encore made up of Wings’ “Hi, Hi, Hi” followed by The Beatles favorites “Birthday” and “I Saw Her Standing There.” Check out a few video highlights from last night below:
On Saturday McCartney will perform at Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California for the second Desert Trip weekend. His performance last weekend included a guest performance by Neil Young who is also on the bill along with Bob Dylan, The Who, The Rolling Stones and Roger Waters.
