Paul McCartney recently announced a box set bundling his three solo career-spanning self-titled albums. The McCartney I II III collection arrives on August 5th in vinyl and CD formats along with photos and notes from McCartney on each album.

Each of Paul’s eponymous LPs came at a time of change for the legendary artist and saw the multi-talented musician writing, performing and producing the albums himself. The McCartney series began with Paul’s 1970 debut solo album, which came just on the heels of The Beatles breakup and contains McCartney classics like “Maybe I’m Amazed,” “Junk” and more.

Ten years later Paul put out the avant-garde McCartney II, which arrived as the tenure of Paul’s band throughout the 1970s, Wings, was coming to an end. Highlights from the record include “Coming Up,” “Waterfalls” and “Temporary Secretary.”

Paul released McCartney III in December of 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic raged, recorded in what the ever-optimistic McCartney called “Rockdown.” With time on his hands and interaction with other musicians off the table, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist got back into the studio to record III in a similar fashion as I and II. The LP produced standouts like “Find My Way” and “Women and Wives.”
