Patti Smith Announces Birthday Livestream Special

Patti Smith will continue the tradition of performing on her birthday in 2020. On December 30, the legendary singer-songwriter will conduct a livestream concert at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT via Veeps.

The webcast — filmed by longtime Smith friend and filmmaker Steven Sebring (Patti Smith: Dream of Life) — marks just the second time the punk rock pioneer has done a livestream, following an online performance on November 27 of this year. Patti will perform with her band, which includes longtime bassist Tony Shanahan and her son Jackson on guitar among others.

“I feel a little emotional talking about this,” Smith told Rolling Stone. “But all of a sudden I realize I’m going to see all my people again; see my son. Even though I’m not going to see the people watching us, I know them. I know their energy and what they bring for me during a concert. They bring me so much energy; let’s all be there for each other so I can have a happy birthday.”
