Opening Night | Rolling Stones 14 On Fire In Abu Dhabi
By Scott Bernstein Feb 21, 2014 • 10:50 am PST

The band rolled through a number of their greatest hits during the 19-song performance including “Start Me Up,” “Tumbling Dice,” “Paint It Black” and “Jumping Jack Flash.” Last May the Stones offered the live debut of “Emotional Rescue” and it remained a staple of setlists throughout the rest of the tour. It appears that will be the case in ’14 as well since “Emotional Rescue” made tonight’s setlist. While the focus was on songs from the group’s heyday, they did tackle one of their newest songs, “Doom and Gloom,” off the GRRR! compilation.
Keith Richards took a turn fronting the band on “Slipping Away” and “Before They Make Me Run” towards the end of the main set. Then, former member Mick Taylor came out for a turn in the spotlight on “Midnight Rambler.” As they did in 2013, the Stones let fans vote on the song they’d most like to hear and “Gimme Shelter” won and was performed at the tour opener. The Al Khubairat Singers joined the Stones on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” during a four-song encore that also included “Sympathy For The Devil,” “Brown Sugar” and ” (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”
Next up for The Rolling Stones is a visit to Tokyo, Japan.
