Opening Night | Death Cab For Cutie Launch Tour

By Andy Kahn Apr 24, 2015 12:27 pm PDT

Death Cab For Cutie launched a huge world tour on Thursday night at Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland in Kansas City, Missouri. The sold-out show saw the band perform several songs from their recently issued LP, Kintsugi as well as a number of tunes from throughout their career.

The trio of Ben Gibbard (lead vocals/guitar), Nicholas Harmer (bass) and Jason McGerr (drums) –sans former member Chris Walla who recently parted ways with the band –kicked off the tour with Kintsugi’s opening track “No Room In Frame,” one of six songs from the new LP performed in KC. Opening night wasn’t without a few hiccups, including an issue with the band’s gear that forced “Little Wander” to be stopped and restarted midway through the song’s sixth live performance. Two songs later they busted out “President Of What?” from their debut album which had only been played once since 2008. The live debut of the Kintsugi track, “Good Help (Is So Hard to Find)” came during the encore and was preceded by Gibbard’s solo rendition of “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.” The show closed with “Transatlanticism” which was captured in a video by Mark oftheBuzz, watch below:
