On Sunday night My Morning Jacket kicked off their One Big Holiday event with the help of Grateful Dead / Furthur guitarist Bob Weir. Bobby stuck around for Monday’s Night Two of MMJ’s time at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico; which also saw the Preservation Hall Jazz Band sit in towards the end of the evening.

My Morning Jacket continues to dig deep into their repertoire of both originals and covers for their time in Mexico. Of note, the Tennessee Fire track “Picture Of You” was performed for only the third time since 2010 and MMJ’s two sets also included somewhat rare originals “Old September Blues,” “Honest Man” and “The Bear,” mixed in among classics like “Off The Record,” “It Beats 4 U” and “Gideon.” Cover wise, the band treated fans to versions of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” and “Oh, Sweet Nuthin!” by The Velvet Underground before the guest parade began.

Pres Hall, who offered a set of their own prior to MMJ taking the stage, came out towards the middle of the second set for “Holdin’ On To Black Metal.” Weir then emerged to join Jim James and Co. for a cover of “Dear Prudence” by The Beatles. Both Weir and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band proceeded to help out on Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell” and Al Johnson’s “Carnival Time.” Pres Hall stuck around for “Move On Up” by Curtis Mayfield.
