One of our favorite sets aboard Jam Cruise 13 in January was The Word’s throw down in the theater. Jam Cruise organizers have just unveiled video of the band’s sizzling rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile” for our viewing pleasure.

For those unfamiliar, The Word features Luther Dickinson on guitar, Robert Randolph on pedal steel, Chris Chew on bass, Cody Dickinson on drums and John Medeski on keyboards. Watch the quintet tear through “Voodoo Chile”:

The Word’s long-awaited sophomore album, Soul Food, which is due in May, is currently available for pre-order. So far, The Word has announced a handful of festival and headlining appearances in the support of the LP.
