Lucius performed last weekend at the 2018 Newport Folk Festival at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island. The group’s guest-filled fifth appearance at the long-running event saw the group joined by Brandi Carlile, Nicole Atkins, Sharon Van Etten and others during their set on Friday, July 27.

Friday’s performance saw vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig and multi-instrumentalists Peter Lalish and Dan Molad bring along members of yMusic, guitarist J. Blynn and a string section made up of Berklee College of Music students. Dancers/choreographers The Seaweed Sisters (Megan Lawson, Jillian Meyers and Dana Wilson) also performed on stage as part of Lucius’ afternoon set.

Wolfe and Laessig led an opening take on “Go Home” with a tender cover of Gerry Rafferty’s “Right Down the Line” soon following. Toward the middle of their set, Lucius brought out Carlile to accompany the ensemble on “Dusty Trails.” Laessig and Wolfe then paused to honor the late musician/producer Richard Swift who recently passed away at the age of 41. Carlile’s band mates, Tim Hanseroth and Phil Hanseroth, as well as Atkins, Van Etten and Bedouine joined in on Swift’s “The Most of What I Know” off his 2006 solo LP Dressed Up For The Letdown.
