Nubya Garcia recently stopped by NPR headquarters to capture a Tiny Desk Concert. Garcia performed songs from her latest album, Odyssey.
Odyssey arrived on September 20, 2024 via Concord Jazz. Nubya Garcia and her band — Sam Jones (drums), Max Luthert (upright bass), Lyle Barton (keys), Amyr Joyner (1st violin), Margret Radovani (2nd violin), Kyung LeBlanc (viola), Maxfield Wollam-Fisher (cello) — kicked off their Tiny Desk session with Odyssey opener “Dawn.”

“‘Dawn’ sets the stage and ‘Solstice’ turns up the tempo, then the band crests the wave into ‘Clarity’ and the album’s title track,” NPR’s Nikki Birch wrote in her rundown of the set. The Tiny Desk concluded with Odyssey closer “Triumphance,” which, as Birch pointed out, features the first lyrics Garcia ever wrote.
