Noel Gallagher Performs Oasis Song With U2 In London

By Jeffrey Greenblatt Jul 9, 2017 10:07 am PDT

Last night U2 kicked-off the European leg their Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary Tour with the first of two gigs at to London’s Twickenham Stadium. The Irish rock band stuck to the setlist that they had performed for the majority of the North American leg of the tour, which included a full performance of their classic 1987 release, but had a surprise in store for their encore.

To cap the night Bono & Co. invited out Noel Gallagher, who’s band High Flying Birds are serving as their opening act through August. Gallager strapped on an acoustic guitar and led the band through a version of Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back In Anger.” The track from Oasis’ 1995 album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? has become an anthem in the U.K. in the aftermath of the Manchester terror attacks, with both Ariana Grande and Coldplay performing it at the One Love Manchester benefit show last month. The song, which Bono declared was “for the people of Manchester,” was turned into a giant cathartic stadium sing-a-long.
