Nine Inch Nails resumed their Peel It Back Tour with the first show of the year held last night at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The setlist’s surprising selection was the first public performance of “Non-Entity” since 2009.
Opening night of this leg of the tour began on the smaller b-stage. The concert started with Trent Reznor going solo for “Something I Can Never Have,” the Pretty Hate Machine song last played by NIN in 2022. Reznor tagged the ending with Depeche Mode’s “Stripped.”
The appearance of “Non-Entity,” which has a connection to New Orleans, came next as Atticus Ross, guitarist Robin Finck and new touring bassist Stu Brooks emerged to join Reznor. An outtake from the 2005 Nine Inch Nails album, With Teeth, “Non-Entity” was performed by the group for MTV’s ReAct Now: Music & Relief all-star benefit concert. The televised special raised funds to support recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina’s destruction of the New Orleans region.
“Non-Entity” eventually landed on a 2009 compilation tour sampler EP. Its bust out last night was trailed by “Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now),” which ended the opening mini-set.
Nine Inch Nails then delivered the “Unpeeled” segment of the show from the main stage. Tour support Boys Noize once again participated in a second mini-set on the smaller stage. The final “Peeled” main stage portion of the performance brought an end to the concert.
