Much love to the Nth Power. Greatest musicians ever and I will miss playing with them. #retired
— Nigel Hall (@nigelhall76) March 29, 2015 The revelation comes just as The Nth Power starts a tour with Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles. Hall previously wrote, “Hey guys, unfortunately I can’t be with Nth for a few shows this weekend, I have some important family things to attend to, but trust the FL shows will rage on, and I will join everyone shortly for the Nth/Cory Henry tour… Thank you all for understanding” on his Facebook page.
The Nth Power responded to Hall’s Tweets with “We love u @nigelhall76… we are going to miss u and wish u nothing but the best,” and band reps have confirmed Hall’s departure.
We love u @nigelhall76… we are going to miss u and wish u nothing but the best.
— The Nth Power (@TheNthPowerVibe) March 29, 2015 Nigel Hall will move forward with work on a solo album. In the mean time, keyboardist and vocalist Courtney Smith will be replacing Nigel on The Nth Power’s tour with The Funk Apostles. Smith, 24, is a close friend of percussionist Weedie Braimah’s from St. Louis and is a member of Weedie’s world beat ensemble, Kreative Pandemonium.
UPDATE (3/30 7:30 a.m. PT): The Nth Power has issued a statement about Hall’s departure: “We love Nigel and wish him nothing but the best with his decision to leave the band. As a friend and founding member of The Nth Power, he will always be part of our family. In the mean time, we reached out to our extended family of musicians and will be moving forward with keyboardist and vocalist Courtney Smith.”
“Courtney Smith is a phenomenal young man who has dedicated his life to music. He is a true believer of letting the spirit flow through him, and his talent is nothing but true joy,” added Braimah. “I’m very honored to have him with us on this musical journey. I look forward to how the world will be captivated by his love, and I look forward to captivating the world with him and the rest of The Nth Power.”
The band also revealed Hall will still be featured on its debut album, Abundance, which is due later this year.
Hall issued a statement of his own on Facebook:
To all my loving and supportive fans…..
I’m excited to announce I have an awesome opportunity to finish my solo project – something I’ve put so much of my heart and soul into this over the years and its time for people to hear it! I want to thank all the artists that have made me a better musician today and I’m constantly and consistently learning from each and every one of you.
You must know, this was not an easy decision for me -it was made in the best interest of my family and the continued growth of my career. I extend my love, appreciation and sincere best wishes to my brothers and sister: Nikki, Nick, Nate and Weedie and to the rest of the Nth Power family, friends and fans who have made my experiences with them unforgettable.
I look forward to seeing you all at my upcoming shows, especially the collaborations coming up for this year’s New Orleans Jazz Festival.
