New To YouTube: Video Of Phish In Buffalo From 20 Years Ago Today
By Scott Bernstein Oct 19, 2016 • 9:01 am PDT

Considering how often Vermont jam titans Phish focus their touring activities in the Northeast, it’s hard to believe the quartet has gone 20 years without performing in Buffalo. Yet Phish’s October 19, 1996 show at Marine Midland Arena was the group’s last in the city. Today, just in time for the 20th anniversary of the show, fan-shot footage of the concert has surfaced on YouTube.
A JamBase reader named Mike used to trade Phish bootlegs with a vendor at a local flea market in Buffalo. He was lucky enough to get a copy of the Buffalo ’96 show on VHS back in the day and recently realized the footage had never been uploaded to YouTube. He converted the VHS to digital format, sync’d it with the best audio he could find and shared away.
Now, as a caveat, the quality of the video leaves much to be desired, but we know there are plenty of fans like Mike for whom Phish’s October 19, 1996 concert was their first Phish show. So with that in mind watch the full gig with the exception of “Hello My Baby,” “Fee” and “Rocky Top”:
Set 1: My Friend, My Friend, Rift, Free, Esther > Llama, Gumbo, Down with Disease > Prince Caspian > Frankenstein
Set 2: AC/DC Bag, Sparkle > Slave to the Traffic Light, Bouncing Around the Room, Split Open and Melt, Fluffhead, Swept Away > Steep > Run Like an Antelope, Hello My Baby
The second set started with a Wish You Were Here tease. Trey sang the verses of Fee through a megaphone.
