Iggy Pop will issue his 17th solo album, Post Pop Depression on March 18 via Rekords Rekords/Loma Vista/Caroline International. In a recent interview, Pop declared the album – which was recorded with and produced by Josh Homme – may be his final LP release.
In conjunction with Beats 1 and Noisey, Pop and his new band mates – Homme and his multi-instrumentalist Queens Of The Stone Age band mate and Dead Weather member Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders – sat for a discussion with Matt Wilkinson in which the topic of the iconic rock musician’s future came up. Pop responded by saying after Post Pop Depression, “I feel like I’m closing up after this, that’s what I feel – that’s my gut instinct.”
Pop jokingly leaves open the possibility of on-demand performances of “Happy Birthday,” but notes the high-energy demand that comes with properly creating a new record might be too much for him to experience again. Apple Music posted audio of the full interview and Noisey shared a clip of the chat, both of which can be seen streamed below:
The Post Pop Depression Tour featuring Iggy, Homme, Fertita, Helders and guitarist/bassist Matt Sweeney and multi-instrumentalist Troy Van Leeuwen begins March 28 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle.
