Neil Young & Promise Of The Real Keep The Bust Outs Coming In Dublin

Rockers Neil Young and Promise of The Real continued the latest leg of their Rebel Content Tour last night at 3Arena in Dublin. Ever since the famed guitarist first teamed with the band featuring Lukas and Micah Nelson, Young has been diving into his back catalog for deep cuts nearly every night. Wednesday’s show in Ireland contained two songs Neil hadn’t performed with Promise Of The Real before including one Young hadn’t played in any shape or form in over eight years.

Neil Young started the 21-song performance with a series of solo selections that saw him alternate between piano, acoustic guitar and pump organ. He then brought out Promise Of The Real for the group’s first-ever take on “Love Is A Rose” and Neil’s first performance of the tune since March 15, 2008. Young recorded “Love Is A Rose” for the unreleased Homegrown album in 1974 with Linda Ronstadt releasing her cover of the song one year later and Neil finally issuing his own take on 1977’s Decade.

The group then treated fans to material from throughout Young’s career including hits and rarities. It was towards the end of the set that Young and his band delivered their first live version of “Love To Burn,” a song Neil recorded with Crazy Horse for 1990’s Ragged Glory. “Love To Burn” was the evening’s big jam song as the ensemble extended it for nearly 15 minutes. “Country Home” came next followed by three Neil & POTR originals before closing the set with “Rockin’ In The Free World” and “Love And Only Love.” The band said farewell with a “Fuckin’ Up” encore. Next up is a swing through the U.K.
