By Scott Bernstein Mar 17, 2020 • 6:48 am PDT

Neil Young performed “Heart Of Gold” in front of a fireplace as part of a digital rally for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Monday night. Young has more of these Fireside Sessions planned as per a note he wrote for his Neil Young Archives website.
“Because we are all at home and not many are venturing out, we will try to do a stream from my fireplace with lovely wife [Daryl Hannah] filming,” wrote Neil. “It will be a down-home production, a few songs, a little time together … we will soon be announcing the first one right here at NYA in the Times – Contrarian and on the Hearse Theater schedule, as well as social media except Facebook.”

Last night’s Bernie Sanders digital rally began with My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James performing a new song as well as the MMJ classic “I’m Amazed” and his solo gem “Here In Spirit.” A series of Sanders supporters then spoke before Young played “Heart Of Gold” and along with Hannah urged viewers to vote for the Vermont Senator.
Next, Bernie gave a speech ahead of The Free Nationals‘ portion of the digital rally that included “Shibuya,” a funk instrumental they dedicated to Sanders, “Eternal Light” and “Gidget.” The Free Nationals were joined by vocalist India Shawn for all but the instrumental.
