Neil Young & Crazy Horse shared a new single, “Timberline.” The previously unreleased track appears on the forthcoming “lost” album, Toast, which will finally be released on July 8.

Neil Young held recording sessions with Crazy Horse in 2000 and 2001 at Toast studio in San Francisco. Young was joined by co-producer John Hanlon, as well as Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina, bassist Billy Talbot and former guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro. The planned Toast album was put aside in favor of 2002’s Are You Passionate?, the latter featuring four of the songs recorded for the former. The other three songs on Toast, including “Timberline,” have never been released.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse will issue the lost album, ‘Toast,’ which was recorded in 2000 and 2001 but not released.

In March 2021, Young shared a note on his website that addressed the reocording and shelving of Toast. According to the message, “Timberline,” which Young has purportedly not performed live, is about “a religious guy who just lost his job. He’s turning on Jesus. He can’t cut any more trees. He’s a logger.”
