Neil Young & Crazy Horse Live Spotify Playlist

This week Neil Young & Crazy Horse announced their first shows since 2014. Young and his at-times backing band will reunite for concerts at Warnors Theatre in Fresno, California on May 1, 2 and 3 and again on May 5 and 6 at The Fox Theater in Bakersfield, California. This Saturday Stream edition presents a Spotify Playlist of Neil Young & Crazy Horse performing live throughout the years.

The live collection begins at The Fillmore East in New York City in May 1970. Young played guitar while backed by guitarist Danny Whitten, bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina and keyboardist Jack Nitzsche.

The massively talented Whitten tragically died in 1972 and Nitzsche had left Crazy Horse by the 1978 Rust Never Sleeps Tour. The resulting Live Rust release, which features Talbot, Molina and guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro, was issued in late 1979 and is included in the playlist. That same lineup backed Young on the 1991 live album Weld (and its noise collage companion Arc), which the playlist also features.

Talbot, Molina, Sampedro and Young were profiled by director Jim Jarmusch in the 1997 documentary Year Of The Horse and the accompanying soundtrack of the same name draws the playlist close to conclusion. An acoustic “Love And Only Love” from a charity Bridge School Benefit concert brings an end to the set.

Young, Talbot, Molina and early Crazy Horse guitarist Nils Lofgren will make up the lineup for the shows in May. Stream the Neil Young & Crazy Horse live Spotify Playlist below:
