Neil Young continued to dig deep into his songbook on the Rebel Content Tour Saturday evening in Santa Barbara California and on Sunday night in Las Vegas. Saturday night Young and Promise Of The Real busted out “Time Fades Away” for only the second performance by the renowned guitarist since it debuted in 1973, and first since 2008. Last evening saw the tour debut of Buffalo Springfield’s “Burned” which Young last played solo in 2009.
Performed a number of times around its debut and recorded as the title track to his 1973 live LP, “Time Fades Away” was last played live by Young on July 9, 2008 at König Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany. The Saturday night rendition featured a full band performance with Young supported by Promise Of The Real. Like other shows on the tour, Neil kicked off the Santa Barbara Bowl show solo on acoustic guitar and after opening with “After The Gold Rush” delivered the tour’s second “My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)” which had been busted out after a four year gap days earlier in Eugene.

The audience assembled Sunday night at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas was treated to first “Burned” of the Rebel Content Tour. Young had performed the song number of times in recent years with Buffalo Springfield but it was the first time he played it at one of his shows since June 23, 2009 in England. Neil and Promise Of The Real began the encore last night with just their second performance of “The Loner” and closed out the show with “Cinnamon Girl.”
