The Boston-based jam quartet — consisting of keyboardist Richard James, guitarist Lyle Brewer, drummer Dean Johnston and bassist Dan Kelly — opened with the bluesy “Don’t You Cry.” James went on to discuss Into The Sun, a three-day event presented by Neighbor and JamBase coming to Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, Massachusetts between September 9 – 11. Ricky also spoke the band’s run supporting Twiddle this fall.

Neighbor’s second song of the set was “Mighty Apple Tree.” The tune, like all three performed for Paste, dates back to the four-piece’s formative period of playing a weekly residency at the now-shuttered Somerville venue Thunder Road. James then talked Martha’s Vineyard and how the band adapts setlists to the setting of each space. Finally, Neighbor offered the contemplative “Mary And Martha” to close the session.
