Grace Bowers Helps Neal Francis Open Dead Ahead Festival In Mexico
Watch the young guitarist join Francis and his band on “How Have I Lived.”

Bobby Weir's Dead Ahead festival began on Thursday with sets from Neal Francis and Oteil & Friends. The second annual installment of the destination event bringing the spirit of the Grateful Dead to the Moon Palace Resort in Riviera Cancún, Mexico continues through Monday, January 13.
Neal Francis took the stage first last night. The singer-songwriter-pianist and his band played material from throughout Francis’ career. Neal’s set also included a guest appearance from guitarist Grace Bowers.

Yesterday was a special day for Francis as he announced the upcoming release of his third studio album, Return To Zero. The Chicago-based musician also shared the single “What’s Left Of Me” from the forthcoming LP. Francis and bandmates bassist Mike Starr, drummer Collin O’Brien and guitarist Andy Gabbard performed the tune early in the set.
Grace Bowers, who is on hand for special appearances at Dead Ahead, came out for Francis’ penultimate song. The youngster let it rip on “How Have I Lived.” The song is featured on Neal’s debut album, 2019’s Changes. Neal Francis then closed his set with “Can’t Stop The Rain” from his 2022 LP In Plain Sight.

Bobby Weir’s all-star Dead Ahead band plays two sets at the festival today. Additionally, Tom Hamilton will perform at the Pool Stage and Neal Francis will rock the Late Night Stage.
