Musicians and comedians came together Sunday in Los Angeles for the “Let’s Get L.Aid: A Night of Music & Comedy for LA Wildfire Relief” benefit. Among the all-star lineup of performers was a surprise appearance by Nancy Sinatra, who sang her iconic 1960s hit, “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’,” at The United Theater On Broadway.

“Weird Al” Yankovic, Al Jardine (of The Beach Boys), Neil Hamburger, Puddles Pity Party, Reggie Watts, Rufus Wainwright, Peter Asher and Tim Heidecker were among the “Let’s Get L.Aid” performers. Additional participants included Bob the Drag Queen, Chris Fleming, Eric Idle, Margaret Cho, Maria Bamford and Mark Proksch.

Nancy Sinatra’s unannounced performance saw her backed by keyboardist Paul Shaffer and a band consisting of bassist Jennifer Jo Oberle, multi-instrumentalist Erik Paparozzi, drummer Nick Vincent, keyboardist Don Randi and others, including Sinatra’s 13-year-old granddaughter on guitar. “Weird” Al Yankovic joined on accordion as well.

“These Boots Were Made For Walkin’” was written by Lee Hazlewood and became a chart-topping hit for Sinatra in 1965. The often covered song became emblematic of the mid-1960s cultural evolution and remains Nancy Sinatra’s most recognizable song.

Nancy Sinatra, the daughter of late legendary vocalist Frank Sinatra, posted a message regarding Sundays rare public performance. The 84-year-old wrote:

“Wow, what an incredible evening! I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the kind words about the [“Let’s Get L.Aid”] performance last night. It has been a long time since I was last on stage and the welcome I received was heartwarming. The audience was absolutely fantastic and contributed to several charities.

“I had a blast with Paul Shaffer, my ever-reliable friend Don Randi, Erik Paparozzi, and “Weird Al” Yankovic!! The bass player known as JayJo was amazing, and the drummer, Vince held it all together. One of the biggest thrills of the evening was sharing the stage with my incredibly talented 13-year-old granddaughter for the very first time. I couldn’t be prouder of her! And I have to admit that one of the highlights was getting to hug one of my heroes, the always brilliant Paula Poundstone. What a night to remember!”
