My Morning Jacket Sets Sights On Repeatless Chicago Run

On Wednesday night My Morning Jacket played their second of three consecutive shows at the historic Chicago Theatre. The band set themselves up nicely to go without repeating any material as last night’s two-set performance contained a number of tour debuts following a similar pattern that Tuesday’s opening show took.

Jim James & Co. opened with “Spring (Among The Living)” off the recently released The Waterfall LP. While most shows on the tour have seen MMJ load the setlist with tunes from The Waterfall, last night’s performance only featured four songs off the LP which in addition to the three played on Tuesday leaves three tracks left for tonight. Wednesday night’s first set also included just the third “It’s About Twilight Now” since 2012 as well as the tour debuts of “Old Sept. Blues” and “I Think I’m Going To Hell.”

A more improv-filled second set began with the tour debut of fan-favorites “Dancefloors” and “Smokin From Shootin.” Later in the set, MMJ dusted off “I Will Be There When You Die” for the first time since One Big Holiday in Mexico this past February. While “Wonderful (The Way I Feel)” was a staple on the last My Morning Jacket tour, it had been missing thus far this tour until last night. “Highly Suspicious” was another tour debut played on Wednesday night and rarity “Cobra” saw action for the second time this tour. My Morning Jacket concludes the three-night stand in Chicago tonight.
