My Morning Jacket initiated a three-show run at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on Thursday night with a complete song-for-song performance of their third studio album, 2003’s It Still Moves. In addition to performing the album celebrating its 20th anniversary, the band debuted “Grab A Body,” an outtake recorded during the sessions held two decades ago at Above the Cadillac Studios in Shelbyville, Kentucky.
Frontman Jim James led his bandmates through the It Still Moves opening track, “Mahgeetah.” The band then progressed through the record’s tracklist, laying out live staples “Dancefloors,” “Golden,” “Master Plan,” “One Big Holiday,” “I Will Sing You Songs,” “Run Thru,” “Just One Thing” and “Steam Thing,” alongside lesser played tunes like “Easy Morning Rebel,” “Rollin Back” and the album closer “One In The Same.”

James delivered a solo rendition of “I Needed It Most” from the band’s 2001 album, At Dawn, kicking off the encore with the song last played in 2018. The full band then went even deeper into their catalog with “Old Sept. Blues” from their 1999 debut album, Tennessee Fire.
Leaning into newer material, “Feel You” from MMJ’s 2020 album, The Waterfall II came next, followed by “It Beats 4 U” from the It Still Moves follow-up, 2005’s Z. “Compound Fracture” from 2015’s The Waterfall set up the previously mentioned song debut.
Released in 2016 as part of the It Still Moves (Deluxe) reissue, “Grab A Body” made its first live setlist appearance as the penultimate song of the night. The premiere was followed by a show-closing “Phone Went West.”
