My Morning Jacket Rebuilds ‘Z’ Demo Into Crunchy Rocker For Upcoming Album ‘is’

My Morning Jacket shared a reimagined Z sessions demo, “Half A Lifetime.” The track is the third single from the band’s upcoming album, is, which arrives this Friday, March 21 via ATO Records.
MMJ previously shared the is cuts “Time Waited” and “Squid Ink.” Grammy-winning producer Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam) helmed the new record.

My Morning Jacket now follows with “Half A Lifetime,” a demo from the sessions for their landmark 2005 LP, Z. While the song was “originally conceived as a stripped-back slow-burner,” as per a press release, MMJ worked the tune up for is as a crunchy rocker.
My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James said of “Half A Lifetime”: “It’s about doing whatever it takes to get where you need to go, instead of bailing when things get hard, which is funny considering that it literally took a half a lifetime to finish.”
