The team behind the iconic FAME Studios & Publishing Co. are leaving Muscle Shoals, Alabama for GRAMMY Week to come to New York City to open a Pop-Up Store in collaboration with InstrumentHead, a book by photographer Michael Weintrob. Head to 66 Greenwich Ave. in New York City’s Greenwich Village neighborhood between 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. today through Saturday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Sunday and 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Monday to visit.
Visitors will be able to check out memorabilia from FAME Studios, which was started by the late Rick Hall in the 1950s and has hosted the likes of Gregg Allman, Duane Allman, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, J.J. Cale, Boz Scaggs, Paul Simon, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many others. In addition, visitors can check out InstrumentHead photos taken by Weintrob for his book and project which has included snaps of Mickey Hart, Derek Trucks, Bootsy Collins, Junior Brown, Scott Avett and more. The idea for InstrumentHead came from a session Weintrob held in April 2000 with the Derek Trucks Band during which Todd Smallie put his bass down his shirt masking his face and creating the first “instrumenthead” image.
