Mike Patton Welcomes Tomahawk Bandmate Duane Denison At Mr. Bungle Show In Nashville

Eureka, California-born experimental rockers Mr. Bungle took the stage at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville on Tuesday. The band brought out guitarist Duane Denison to kick off their encore in Music City.

Mr. Bungle is founding members frontman Mike Patton (Faith No More), guitarist Trey Spruance and Trevor Dunn along with veteran players Scott Ian (Anthrax) and Slayer founding drummer Dave Lombardo. The band’s latest release, the live album The Night They Came Home , arrived in 2021.

Patton and last night’s guest guitarist Duane Denison have a long history. The pair met at a Mr. Bungle show in Nashville in 1999 during Faith No More’s first hiatus and while Denison’s The Jesus Lizard was on a break. The duo began swapping tapes and soon formed Tomahawk.

The band released their self-titled debut in 2001 which included the song “God Hates a Coward.” Denison joined Mr. Bungle for the latter’s first performance of the song, as per Setlist.FM stats, in Nashville on Tuesday. Watch below:

Mr. Bungle kicked off the concert with a cover of ‘60s singer Timi Yuro’s “Satan Never Sleeps.” The band also offered a cover from Dave Lombardo’s band Slayer, “Hell Awaits,” alongside several cuts from Mr. Bungle’s latest studio album, The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny Demo — pulled from a 1986 demo tape — “Anarchy Up Your Anus,” “Eracist,” “Raping Your Mind” and more.

Following “God Hats a Coward,” the rockers capped the concert with a cover Eric Carmen’s 1975 single, “All By Myself,” with the lyrics changed to “go fuck yourself.” Mr. Bungle’s North American Tour continues tonight in Indianapolis.
