The Mountain Goats Perform With Stephen Colbert On ‘Late Show’

The Mountain Goats served as the musical guest on Tuesday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and recruited the host to join them for one of the two songs they performed. Stephen Colbert dueted with Mountain Goats’ frontman John Darnielle on “This Year” off 2005’s The Sunset Tree.
Colbert introduced the band and their new album In League With Dragons and then revealed Mountain Goats would perform a song that isn’t on the LP by his request. Darnielle and company then began “This Year” with an energetic Colbert emerging during the first chorus and then handling a verse by himself. “10 years ago we did this song with Stephen on Comedy Central but it never aired. Tonight we did it again,” reads a tweet from @Mountain_Goats in reference to the group’s appearance on The Colbert Report. The Mountain Goats also performed “Sicilian Crest” from In League With Dragons.
