Out today from The Mountain Goats is the rollicking new single “Shallow Grave.” The latest preview of the band’s forthcoming album, Days, was accompanied by the announcement of a six-show November residency at The Fillmore in San Francisco featuring a different theme each night.

Days, the Mountain Goats’ 24th full-length album, is set for release on August 7 via Cadmean Dawn Records/Thirty Tigers. The band’s John Darnielle, Matt Douglas and Jon Wurster previously shared “Charlie Sheen Reaches Out To The Feds,” the record’s lead single.

Producer John Congleton reunited with Mountain Goats to helm Days after working with the band on 2011’s All Eternals Deck. The trio recorded the 12-track LP at Manhattan’s Sear Sound facility. Contributors include Mikaela Davis on harp, Rob Jost on bass and french horn and backing vocals from Catherine Russell, Jamie Leonhart, Carolyn Leonhart, Janis Siegel and Matt Nathanson.

John Darnielle had high praise for “Shallow Grave,” describing the track as “the song of the summer.” Read Darnielle’s full remarks about the track below:

“I got the idea for Shallow Grave at a stoplight and recorded the first bits of it a capella into my phone. Came home and blazed through the rest old school style. Got very excited! Sent it to friends! Everybody bopped! Carrie White’s mom, or Carrie White’s arm? The jury is still out! Poetic license strikes again! Please enjoy what has already been called, by me, “the song of the summer”: Shallow Grave! Shallow Grave! Shallow Grave!”
