The Mountain Goats Perform ‘Cold At Night’ With The Replacements’ Tommy Stinson On ‘Colbert’

The Mountain Goats performed “Cold At Night” on last night’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The Replacements’ bassist Tommy Stinson joined the band at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City.

“Cold At Night” comes from The Mountain Goats’ 2025 album, Through This Fire Across from Peter Balkan. The album was the group’s first after the departure of longtime bassist Peter Hughes. Stinson contributed to “Cold At Night” and fellow album track, “Dawn of Revelation.”

Along with Stinson, frontman John Darnielle, drummer Jon Wurster and guitarist Matt Douglas were accompanied by a string section and backing vocalists. View the collaborative performance of “Cold At Night” on Colbert:
