Last night moe. staged the first of two consecutive shows at New Orleans’ Civic Theatre. Friday’s show featured collaborations with openers Turkuaz and moe.’s debut performance of a pair of cover songs.

The evening began with moe. starting first of their two sets by stringing together “Brent Black” > “Bring It Back Home” > “Blue Jeans Pizza.” The fivesome returned to “Brent Black” following a take on “Puebla” and closed the set with “Waiting For The Punchline.”

Set two started with the pairing of “Spine Of A Dog” and “Plane Crash.” The middle of the second set featured “Tambourine,” “Downward Facing Dog” and “Brittle End,” before Turkuaz saxophonist Greg Sanderson came out for a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking.” Turkuaz guitarist Craig Brodhead, trumpeter Chris Brouwers and saxophonist Joshua Schwartz also got in on the the subsequent “McBain” set closer. The encore then featured all of the members of Turkuaz on stage for moe.’s debut covers of Isaac Hayes’ “Soul Man,” and The Band’s “Ophelia” and a bust out of Talking Heads’ “Life During Wartime.”

The two bands return to the Civic Theatre again tonight. Watch audience-captured video via Live For Live Music fbelow:
