Califone’s Tim Rutili Joins Modest Mouse In Chicago

Califone began a run of shows supporting Modest Mouse last night at The Salt Shed in Chicago. Modest Mouse used the opportunity to bring out Califone’s Tim Rutili for performances of two Ugly Casanova songs.

Ugly Casanova was formed by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock in 1997. Rutili is a member of Ugly Casanova. The project reunited earlier this year for the first time in 15 years to perform at Modest Mouse’s Ice Cream Floats cruise festival at sea.

Rutili took the stage with Modest Mouse midway through their headlining set at The Salt Shed. Brock and Rutili shared lead vocal duties on “Barnacles,” the first track from 2002’s Sharpen Your Teeth, the lone Ugly Casanova album.

Modest Mouse broke out “Barnacles” at a pre-Ice Cream Floats concert in Miami. The Miami performance was Modest Mouse’s first of the song since 1997.

Rutili stayed onstage for a performance of the Ugly Casanova tune “Spilled Milk Factory.” The Sharpen Your Teeth cut was last played by Modest Mouse in 2005.

Califone opens for Modest Mouse tonight in St. Paul (Minnesota), tomorrow in Milwaukee and Wednesday, August 19 in Philadelphia. Watch Rutili and Modest Mouse perform Ugly Casanova songs in Chicago via fan-shot video footage below:
