MJ Lenderman & Trace Mountains Cover Jackson Browne’s ‘These Days’ In London

MJ Lenderman & The Wind and Trace Mountains closed out a run of U.K. dates on Wednesday with a concert at London’s Electric Ballroom. The tourmates loaded the stage to wrap the night with a two-song collaboration that included a cover of Jackson Browne's “These Days.”

Trace Mountains, the solo project of LVL Up's Dave Benton, opened the evening. The headliners then threw down a 19-song set heavy on cuts from Lenderman’s fantastic 2024 album, Manning Fireworks.

Wednesday marked The Wind multi-instrumentalist Xandy Chelmis’ birthday. A cake was brought out and “Happy Birthday To You” was sung in Chelmis’ honor at the beginning of the encore.

MJ Lenderman & The Wind performed “You Have Bought Yourself A Boat” from 2022’s Boat Songs before bringing out Trace Mountains. The two bands joined forces on the Lenderman debut of “These Days.”

Jackson Browne wrote “These Days” as a teenager. Nico was the first to record the song in 1967. Browne put out his version on his For Everyman album in 1973, the same year Gregg Allman fit a revised arrangement on his debut solo record Laid Back.

Dave Benton, Trace Mountains bandmate Mallory Hawk and MJ Lenderman shared vocal duties on “These Days” last night in London. Trace Mountain hung around as Lenderman & The Wind went back to Boat Songs for the concert’s “Tastes Just Like It Costs” finale.

MJ Lenderman & The Wind head to Spain for an appearance at Primavera Sound Barcelona. The band begins a run of North American shows with a set at the Bonnaroo festival on Friday, June 13.
