Milwaukee Mayor Shares Letter As Paul Simon Schedules Milwaukee Concert

The 50th edition of Milwaukee’s annual Summerfest music festival will feature a headlining performance by Paul Simon. The confirmation of the performance of the renowned singer-songwriter prompted the city’s mayor to share a letter he co-wrote with his daughter and sent to Simon last year.

Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett‏ and his “cool millennial” daughter Anne Barrett co-authored a letter which they sent to Simon last June. The pair were compelled to write Simon following his statements regarding a possible retirement from music. The Barretts’ June 30, 2016 correspondence stated in part:

We are not writing to try to convince you to postpone you (much deserved) retirement forever. We are writing to ask you to please come to perform in Milwaukee once again.

The letter closed with the mayor promising to “put out the red carpet” if Simon ever chose to play the good land again. The father and daughter will have the chance to catch Paul live on June 30 at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater with special guest Brandi Carlile. Check out the Barretts’ letter below:
