Mike Gordon Releases The Last Step EP

After a quiet start to 2015 for Phish bassist Mike Gordon today has been a big news day for the Massachusetts native. Earlier today we reported on Mike’s June tour featuring a five-piece band with a few changes from the previous incarnation. Now comes word on a new EP from Gordon.

Mike Gordon’s The Last Step is a five song EP that includes additional tracks from the 2014 Overstep recording sessions; one of which ended up making its way into the recording sessions for Phish’s latest album Fuego. The bassist and long-time collaborator Scott Murawski wrote the songs during a series of writing retreats in New England for Overstep. The last step also features a studio version of “Snow,” a song Phish debuted as part of the Wingsuit suite on Halloween 2013. The original studio track was then recorded with the rest of Phish in Nashville during the Fuego recording sessions.

New Mike Gordon keyboardist Robert Walter is featured on the first three tracks of The Last Step. Gordon’s Phish bandmates contribute to “Snow,” while Tom Cleary and Matt Chamberlain also appear on The Last Step. Head to LivePhish.com to purchase the new EP. The Last Step is also available on vinyl. LivePhish+ subscribers can stream the EP for free.
