Percussionist Mike Dillon has made a foray into the film world by writing the score for a new documentary entitled Kharma Bums that will make its L.A. premiere later this month. The 69-minute documentary follows a 130-mile stand up paddle board journey, beginning at the Kumbh Mela, the largest gathering of humans ever recorded. Kharma Bums follows four friends, as they discover the beauty, chaos and wonders of this massive festival, while at the same time, figuring out the logistics of continuing their journey via paddle board on this sacred yet polluted river.

The L.A. premiere of Kharma Bums will take place March 22 at The Silent Movie Theatre in Hollywood from 4 -6 p.m. Tickets are currently available via Brown Paper Tickets. A happy hour with the film’s creators follows a screening of the documentary. Not only did Mike D. score the film, but the soundtrack includes tracks from Hamsa Lila and Anoushka Shankar.
