Michael League Debuts New Band Bokanté
Snarky Puppy founder Michael League has debuted a new project called Bokante. The newly formed band will release their debut LP Strange Circles in May on League’s GroundUP Music label and has shared a video for their song “Jou Ké Ouvè.”
League handles baritone guitar and bass in the eight-piece ensemble alongside lap and pedal steel guitarist Roosevelt Collier, guitarists Chris McQueen and Bob Lanzetti, percussionists Jamey Haddad, André Ferrari and Keita Ogawa and tri-lingual vocalist Malika Tirolien.
The self-described “weird combination of West African music, Delta blues, and Led Zeppelin (with lyrics in Creole and French)” will embark on an international tour later in the year. They are currently slated to appear at the GroundUP Music Festival with Snarky Puppy, David Crosby and others, as well as at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado supporting Umphrey’s McGee in July.
The collective filmed a video for their song “Jou Ké Ouvè” at Dreamland Studios in West Hurley, New York in April of last year. Watch here:
