Michael C. Hall Performs David Bowie’s ‘Lazarus’ At 2016 Mercury Prize Ceremony

The 2016 Mercury Prize for Album Of The Year was awarded to Skepta for his album Konnichiwa at a ceremony held in London at at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith. The annual event that honors the best albums released by UK and Irish musicians included a performance by actor Michael C. Hall of the David Bowie song “Lazarus,” which was originally released on the Mercury Prize Shortlisted album ★ (Blackstar).
Hall starred in the New York production of Bowie’s play Lazarus and will take up the role again when the show opens in London next month. The performance at the Mercury Prize Ceremony saw Hall backed by the play’s musical director Henry Hey and Lazarus House Band. Watch the rendition of “Lazarus” here:
Earlier this week it was revealed that the final three yet-to-be-released studio recordings made by David Bowie prior to his death in January will be included on the upcoming Lazarus Cast Album, due out on October 21. Co-produced by longtime collaborator Tony Visconti, Bowie recorded “No Plan,” “Killing A Little Time,” “When I Met You” with the same group of musicians led by Donny McCaslin that recorded the majority of ★ (Blackstar). The Lazarus Cast Album also includes a studio rendition of “Lazarus” performed by Hall as well as Bowie’s “Life On Mars?” recorded by his co-star Sophia Anne Caruso.
