Metal icons Metallica held an intimate show last night at Webster Hall in New York City. The group offered a career-spanning setlist that included the performance of two songs from their upcoming new studio album Hardwired… To Self‐Destruct.
A cover of “Breadfan” opened the show, purportedly played for the first time since August 2013. Another bust out from 2013, “Holier Than Thou” followed in the second song slot and three songs later the band debuted “Moth Into Flame” which is the single from the new LP.
As noted by Ultimate Classic Rock, following Metallica’s rendition of their song “Orion” frontman James Hetfield pointed upward and said “30 years, we miss you, Cliff” in reference to yesterday marking the 30th anniversary since the tragic death of the group’s bassist Cliff Burton. Other favorites such as “Master Of Puppets,” “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and “Enter Sandman” helped round out the main set. The Hardwired… to Self‐Destruct track “Hardwired” appeared during the three-song encore, with “Whiskey In The Jar” preceding it and the subsequent “Seek & Destroy” closing out the show.
