Metallica Covers ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ In Birmingham

Metallica brought their Winter Tour to the Legacy Arena At The BJCC in Birmingham on Tuesday, marking the first time they have played the city since 1992. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame act gave some love the locals by performing a portion of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama.”

The cover came during the nightly “Kirk & Rob Doodle” portion of the show when guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo typically jam on different songs. Last evening’s version featured a rare appearance during the “Doodle” by the band’s lead singer James Hetfield who sang part of the iconic classic rock tune.
