Members Of Wilco, R.E.M., Yo La Tengo & More To Play Big Star’s ‘Third’ Live

An all-star ensemble of musicians featuring members of Wilco, R.E.M., Yo La Tengo and more will come together once again to perform the music of seminal power pop group Big Star. The latest “Thank You, Friends: Big Star’s Third Live” performance will take place Wednesday, April 27 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California.

Like past stagings, the evening will include a complete playing of Big Star’s final album Third as well as favorites from the band’s #1 Record and Radio City LPs, including “In The Street,” “Thirteen” and “September Gurls.” The lineup for the Alex Theatre show includes Big Star drummer Jody Stephens as well as Jeff Tweedy and Pat Sansone of Wilco, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo, Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer of The Posies, Mitch Easter of Let’s Active, Chris Stamey of The dB’s, Dan Wilson of Semisonic, Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Robyn Hitchcock, Jessica Pratt, Brett Harris, Django Haskins, Skylar Gudasz and others.

Additionally, the Kronos Quartet will lead a full chamber orchestra through renditions of scores composed from the multitrack tapes from Big Star’s original Ardent Studios recording sessions in Memphis.
