On Saturday night, Umphrey’s McGee returned to the Palace Theatre in Albany, New York as the band’s extensive Winter Tour with TAUK continued. Umphrey’s collaborated with two members of TAUK and paid tribute to birthday boy Bob Marley as part of their performance in the New York capital.

Instrumental “Catshot” got the call to kick off UM’s first of two sets in Albany last night. The first set also featured rare instrumental “The Pequod” and the third-ever version of “Gone For Good.” Guitarist Jake Cinnninger utilized an acoustic on the new Umphrey’s original. “Cemetery Walk” and “Cemetery Walk II” followed before heavy hitters “Ringo” and “JaJunk” brought the first set to a close.

Another new UM original, “Attachments,” was played for the fourth time since the song’s debut at Dominican Holidaze ’15 to start Saturday’s second set. Umphrey’s then were aided by TAUK’s Alric Carter on keys and Isaac Teel on vocals and percussion for “Bad Friday.” Carter was celebrating his birthday which he shares with Bob Marley, who was honored by Umphrey’s dusting off the “Life During Exodus” mashup. “Resolution” -> “Remind Me” closed out the second set, while classics “The Triple Wide” and “Hajimemashite” served as the evening’s encore. The tour continues on Thursday at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.

Before the show, Umphrey’s welcomed 12-year-old pianist Owen York (PianoPanther1 on YouTube) to hang out and jam on “Cemetery Walk” during the soundcheck. You may recall York played an impromptu set heavy on UM tunes at the Hotel Beacon a few weeks back after the Chicago sextet’s Beacon Theatre finale in NYC was cancelled due to a winter storm. Owen impressed many UM fans that afternoon including the band’s Lighting Director Jefferson Waful.
