Members Of Monsters Of Folk Reunite At M. Ward Performance

By Andy Kahn Jul 11, 2016 4:00 pm PDT

Yesterday, singer-songwriter M. Ward was at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to play an opening set before legendary founding member of The Beach Boys Brian Wilson headlined at the storied venue. Ward made the most of his appearance, welcoming several guests to the stage including several members of the supergroup Monsters Of Folk as well as his She & Him band mate.

My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst sat-in with Ward, in doing so making up three fourths of Monsters Of Folk (fourth member Mike Mogis wasn’t present). The trio tackled Ward’s “Vincent O’Brien” and “To Save Me” as well as their “Whole Lotta Losin’” that was recorded for the group’s lone self-titled 2009 LP. Zooey Deschanel, the “She” to Ward’s “Him” in She & Him, also guested during the latter’s set, performing Ward’s “Never Had Nobody Like You” and “Magic Trick.”
