Back in August, Carlos Santana told Billboard he would be forming a band dubbed “Supernova” that would find the guitarist joined by wife Cindy Blackman Santana on drums, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, keyboardist Herbie Hancock and guitarist John McLaughlin. No further details had been shared since the article’s publication, but today a performance by a similar group called “Mega Nova” has been announced.

Mega Nova finds the Santanas joined by Hancock, Shorter and bassist Marcus Miller. The band has been booked to appear at the famed Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on August 24 as part of the venue’s Jazz At The Bowl series. A description of the performance reads, “Showcasing groundbreaking musical explorations, Mega Nova puts five musical titans together and brings their influential music to life in the epic surrounds of the Hollywood Bowl – a joyous celebration with modern jazz and rock icons alike.” Tickets go on sale May 1.
