Nearly four years after the Medeski Martin & Wood documentary Not Not Jazz premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival, the movie will be official released next month. The Jason Miller-directed film chronicling the making of a long-awaited album is due on on August 11 from Oscilloscope Laboratories in conjunction with MVD Entertainment Group.

Not Not Jazz will be available via video on demand as well as in physical formats (blu-ray/DVD). “I am deeply grateful to have met John, Billy and Chris and to have been entrusted with documenting their process as musicians and exploring their personal lives,” stated Jason Miller in a press release. “It’s been a long and arduous journey to get the film made and released, and I learned a lot from them along the way. It’s my hope that everyone who watches the film will take something away as well.”

Medeski Martin & Wood was formed in 1991 out the downtown New York City music scene. The trio released a series of acclaimed albums including 1993’s It’s A Jungle In Here, 1995’s Friday Afternoon In The Universe, 1996’s Shack-man and 2002’s Uninvisible. Guitarist John Scofield called upon MMW to back him on A Go Go in 1998 and again eight years later on Out Louder.

After performing regularly from 1995 through 2013, shows have been few and far between. Medeski Martin & Wood’s most recent concert was their headlining appearance at Brooklyn Comes Alive in 2022.
