Mavis Stavis Appears On ‘The Late Show’

Legendary vocalist Mavis Staples was a guest on last evening’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Staples sat for an interview with the show’s host and performed a song from her just-released new album, Livin’ On A High Note.

M. Ward produced the new record and Staples enlisted an all-star cast of songwriters to pen songs for the album, including Justin Vernon, Neko Case, Nick Cave, Ben Harper, tUnE-yArDs, Aloe Blacc, Valerie June, The Head And The Heart and Late Show bandleader John Baptiste. Last night Staples chose to perform the album track “Take Us Back” which was written by Benjamin Booker.

On Monday, February 29, HBO will premiere the documentary film Mavis! about the life of the revered artist. Staples will soon start touring, making a stop in Dallas for a two-night stand at The Kessler Theater beginning March 4.
