By Scott Bernstein Jun 17, 2019 • 6:25 am PDT

Iconic vocalist Mavis Staples was featured on CBS This Morning’s “Saturday Sessions” this past weekend. The soon-to-be 80-year-old musical legend performed two songs from the recently released We Get By and sat for an interview with host Anthony Mason.
In their chat, Staples explains to Mason why she used to fight other kids while growing up in Mississippi. She also talks about how she’s more popular now than ever. Other topics hit upon are how she stays healthy, the series of 80th birthday tribute concerts that took place across the country and the racism she fought as a youngster. Mavis Staples went on to lead her band through the title track from We Get By, an album produced by Ben Harper, as well as the LP’s opening track, “Change.”
